Fun in the Park

Hundreds flocked to Wildwood Park on Sunday 4th September to enjoy a fun packed day for all ages.

Organisers were astounded when well over 1500 local residents rolled up to this year's Fun in the Park, many with picnic blankets in hand. While children queued for face painting and bouncy castles, teenagers fought it out in the football cage and parents and grandparents enjoyed a burger and tried their luck at the human fruit machine.

The event, which was all free, was organised by Wildwood Christian Fellowship (WCF) and officially opened by Mayor Stan Highfield and Mayoress Frances Knight. Event organiser Markus Weber commented, "We are delighted that Fun in the Park went so well. The atmosphere was amazing - with the whole community there enjoying each other's company and all generations getting involved in activities. We were thrilled that so many local churches, community groups and organisations were also there. Even our MP Jeremy Lefroy came down to lend a hand."

WCF Church Leader Robin Millar added, "We are particularly grateful to the Borough Council for letting us use the park and to Cllr John Francis for providing the funding. As a church we believe it is important to be a blessing to our neighbours - the free Fun in the Park event is just one way in which we are seeking to share God's love with our community."

"I'm so glad I was able to support the event again this year. It's really important to me to gather the community together and encourage both young and old to engage in positive local activities - it's localism at its best. Not to mention, I had a fabulous day out myself!" said Cllr John Francis who provided the funding for the event through Staffordshire County Council's Local Community Fund.
